Working in a mirror factory…
Working in a mirror factory…
Working in a mirror factory…is something I could totally see myself doing
My 7 month old son is currently OBSESSED with his reflection which is hilarious and cute. Hopefully I’m not raising a total narcissist, time will tell!
Anyway… How are you? I’m back from holiday and I had THE best time ever. The kids loved it, and so did we. I was off social media and I didn’t let myself write. I sat down in the evening with some physical books to read. I really do much prefer real books, but ebooks are just so darn convenient! But holding a real book again has made me rush out and buy a bunch of paperbacks. I’ll be reviewing them in the coming weeks so you can decide if they float your boat.
I’ll only ever recommend a book that I feel is a 4 or 5 star read, so don’t think I’m just amazingly positive about books, I’m not, but I’ll only share the good ones with you in my new “Heather Reads” section.
Bookish Update
Lucy Book 1, Protection of The Pack is out in just over two weeks! To get you excited, here is a little excerpt!

Archie stood. ‘I’d better go,’ he muttered. ‘I’m going to Rosie’s to get a quick recharge before the hunt.’
‘Take someone with you. And Archie – we’re not done yet.’
He looked at me and looked away again. ‘I don’t know anything else. You’ll have to ask the others.’ He walked out without a backward glance.
I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I think young Archie knows more than he’s saying.
There was a heavy pause. Why would you bark at a tree?
I paused, flummoxed. It means I may be mistaken.
You would be mistaken if you barked at a tree, Esme muttered. Clearly you’d have had too much sun as a pup.
I didn’t touch that. I think Archie knows more than he’s telling us, I tried to explain.
Well, let’s pin him down until he tells us what he knows. If he doesn’t, we’ll rip his throat out.
That can be Plan B.
What’s Plan A?
We’ll watch him and see if he gives anything away.
We stalk him before we attack, she said in apparent understanding.
Something like that, I agreed. Sometimes conversing with Esme was like trying to work out a Rubik’s cube whilst wearing a blindfold.

Heather Reads
This is a new section of my blog where I would love to shine a light on other great Indie books and authors. Here you will find books that I have read and that I think you will enjoy too. This week I’m going to feature Lauretta Hignett.
If you ignore all of my Heather Reads but one, let this be the one you heed…My read of the year to date!
Book review – Immortal by Lauretta Hignett
Sick of 25 year old protagonists? How about a 250,000 year old one instead? Meet Imogen Grey. She’s immortal and pissed off about it.
A magical portal is opening over Emerald Valley and the Witch Bloodlord plans to use it to gain ultimate power. Think hell on Earth. Imogen tries to keep herself to herself, after all, people die and losing them time and again is wearing. Alone is better.
Unfortunately a 12 year old kid needs rescuing and he latches onto Imogen like a wise-cracking limpet. Saving him is an inconvenience but Imogen can roll with it, he’ll go away eventually, everyone does.
Reluctantly she and the kid travel to Emerald Valley to try and work out who the skin-shifting big-bad is but time is running out. And the billionaire Vampire King isn’t exactly helping. You’d think there’s only so many times you can say no to dinner before he’ll get the idea…
Time’s a-wastin and an apocalypse is calling. Can Imogen save the world in time? Does she even want to? Sticking her head over the parapet again will send a signal to her ancient foe and if he tears her immortal arse to shreds one more time, she’s really going to lose her shit.
Immortality isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

This story is everything I love in an Urban Fantasy story. It is a fast paced, action packed story laced with laugh out loud humour. Sometimes I say that, and I mean I chuckle in my head, with this book I mean honest to goodness chuckling away. At times, I may have cackled.
I can’t tell you how much I loved this story, but to give you an idea, half way through this story I bought the entire series in paperback. It’s in Kindle Unlimited to read for free, but I NEED this on my shelves to read again and again.
It has all the tropes that I love including found family vibes and a slow burn romance. Imogen is a different type of protagonist, with a depth you rarely see. This is without a doubt the best book I’ve read this year, and I’ve read Helen Harper’s Hummingbird so that’s saying something.
A five star read, and I’d give it more stars if I could.
Run, don’t walk. Grab this story and feel free to thank me when you do. You’re welcome.
PS If you do read it, please leave her a review on Amazon, Goodreads an or Bookbub! Reviews are lifeblood to us Indies. You’re literally keeping us going with reviews!
Bookish update
Production on the audiobook for Protection of The Pack is underway and I’m keeping everything crossed that it will be ready soon after the e-book launches. I’ll keep you up to date!
In the meantime Guardians of The Pack is with the editor and I am doing my last round of edits on the third book, Saviour of The Pack.
